Charley Boorman talks electric
His experience, gained during the filming for Apple TV+ series Long Way Up with actor and friend Ewan McGregor, confirms just how useful and versatile electric vehicles can be even in the toughest of conditions.
The pair embarked on their latest 13,000-mile trip on specially prepared electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorcycles supported by Rivian R1T electric pickup trucks.
The journey takes them from Ushuaia, Argentina’s southernmost city through South and Central America to Los Angeles, USA.
It’s the third time the friends have overlanded together in this way. The last was 13 years ago in the 2007 series Long Way Down.
The production saw the installation of 150 chargers at 100-mile intervals by energy company Enel.
“It proves that an electric motorcycle is a viable alternative,” explains Boorman in the Behind the Visor interview. “One charge around town and [the LiveWire] easily does 120 miles…most people’s commute is just 30 miles.”
